THE MENTOR SERVICE

Although working with a career counselor/coach one-on-one and in person is obviously the best option, it also is the most expensive. The Family Corner Mentor Service is a free alternative (or supplement) that can help you to help yourself and your family at minimal cost (books, tapes, etc.) This can be particularly helpful in the case of job loss, or when your budget just won't allow for the extra expense of counseling/coaching.

The Mentor Service works like this:

If you have a question or a problem you are trying to deal with, send us an e-mail about it. We will get back to you in a few days with suggested answers or ways to address the problem, or perhaps asking for clarification or more information. In some cases, your e-mail may be paraphrased and printed in The Family Forum (without your name, of course,) along with our suggestions. In many cases other people will be experiencing similar situations. Your questions, as well as the responses to them, can be helpful to them for several reasons. For one thing, they will realize they are not the only one with that situation. They also get to read our suggestions and decide what they think and how they might apply the ideas. Also, others may respond with different ideas that you may find helpful.

Of course, your situation may require more than a "one-shot" answer. In these cases we will try to provide a more extended Mentor Program by e-mail, and in some cases, by phone. Naturally, the availability of this type of service will depend on the volume of requests.

The Mentor Service can be helpful if you:
